I wanted to write you to let you know about our current situation but also to thank you. Crystal and I are coming up to almost two years as missionaries! It has been an amazing experience full of adventure, culture, and God’s redemption. It has also been one of difficulty, stress, and at times loneliness. Your partnership with us has been so enriching to our lives and hearts. At the hardest times we honestly felt that you had our backs, that you believe in what God is doing, and that we can continue on in ministry.
This next leg is the scariest yet - moving farther away than ever before, new language, new culture, in a country with very real struggles. Cambodia is known to be very corrupt, and issues such as malnutrition and poverty are rampant. Christianity is almost nonexistent, just .4% in a 97% Buddhist country. There is dire need for hope!
We know and truly believe that God is going to do really big things in Cambodia, Jesus tells us that things are impossible for man, “but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
As we move forward, we wanted to take a moment to address some questions you may have about our ministry.
What are AIM and IOM?
AIM is Agape International Missions and is a Christian organization serving in Cambodia that we will be joining and serving under. A.T. will be working directly with this ministry as an Executive Assistant to the founder.
IOM is International Outreach Ministries. IOM has been around since 1985 and their sole purpose is to serve those who are serving abroad. This stateside organization supports missionaries with various services including accounting, providing accountability for the funding they receive and country visits for training and encouragement. IOM helps support missionaries so that they may serve and maintain the utmost accountability and transparency with funding. IOM is the sending organization that we use for funding and processing our donations.
1 .Why do donations go through IOM?
Although we are going to serve at Agape International Missions, we have to join a sending organization to help in receiving funds. AIM is dedicated to helping those in Cambodia, so any money they receive they prioritize for the Cambodian people and ministry. IOM operates as a 501(c) 3 organization making donations given through IOM for missionary support fully tax deductible. IOM takes 8% of the donations to cover their operating cost, and an additional 3% if using a credit card when giving donations.
2. Why change from Fuel the Mission?
FTM was gracious to support us in Ecuador but they are not focused on sending missionaries abroad. Due to being part of the same project they agreed to work with us in Ecuador, but this was a unique situation. FTM is focused on sports ministries in southeast Asia and providing construction support to missions around the world and we are called to Cambodia so the switch was necessary
3. What do we need to know in order to donate?
There is a 3% charge when using a credit card, so the best way to avoid these fees and ensure more money goes to ministry is to support us via check. Here’s how:
Mail your contributions to IOM: PO Box 2140, McComb, MS 39649. Make checks payable to IOM and indicate “ The Holder’s” in the memo.
If you prefer to use paypal or Push-Pay you can find links on our website under the “donate” tab. Please keep in mind, 3% of the donation will go to the credit card company.
4. What is our current funding and what is our goal?
Our current goal for support is $4400 and as of February 8 our monthly support is $3,190.
We are also excited about any one time gifts due to moving expenses and start up is around $10,000 not including a family car.
A.T. will be in Cambodia from February 14 - March 8th. Please pray for his trip, training and time.
Crystal will be staying back with Tommy
Please pray for God’s guidance in finding housing
Crystal navigating taking care of Tommy while A.T. is gone
